STEM Exploration Week - Spring Break 2022

Spring break 2022 brought Hawaii Island highschooler three STEM workshops that offered a diverse set of learning experiences.

The first workshop, Intro to ArcGIS Online: Tech Tools From Space, held on March 14 gave participants an introduction to ArcGIS, a tool used by scientists study and communicate geographic data.

The second workshop, Forest Talk, was held on March 18. It included a hike through Kaulana Manu Nature Trail to observe native birds and record their song. The following day, students studied the birdsong recording at the UH Hilo Bioacoustics laboratory.

The last workshop, Chasing Coastlines: Tech Tools in Marine Science with the MEGA LAB, took place at Laehala, Keaukaha. Participants got the opportunity to learn about the MEGA lab and the work being done to preserve our coastal and ocean systems.
